How Long Do You Need at the Sagrada Família?
Ninety minutes to two hours inside; the basilica's own guided tour is about 50 minutes; with a tower about 1 h 30 total; add security before your slot. How to plan the time — and why arriving late forfeits the slot.
Plan ninety minutes to two hours inside, plus the security check before your slot — and treat the slot as a hard deadline, because arriving late forfeits it. Here is how the time breaks down for each kind of visit.
The guided version most people take is the skip-the-line entry ticket & tour — about 1.5 hours with the guide, then you stay.
By kind of visit
| Visit | Time inside | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Audio-app visit at your own pace (€26) | 90 min – 2 h | The app is included with every ticket |
| The basilica’s own guided tour (€30) | ~50 min guided, then free time | Museum and liturgical path on your own afterwards |
| Operator guided tour (from ~$54) | 1.5 – 2 h including entry | Then you stay as long as you like |
| Basilica + tower (€36) | ~1 h 30 min total, per the basilica | Lift up, spiral walk down; add 30–45 min to a basilica-only plan |
Add 15 minutes for the airport-style security check before your slot; guided groups use their own lane, individual ticket holders queue for the slot.
The slot is strict
There is no grace period: your ticket is for a time, and late arrival forfeits it. Build in the walk (the Sagrada Família metro is on the doorstep) and the security wait; if you are pairing it with Park Güell, do the basilica first and leave a gap (best time to visit).
The tower adds real time
The lift is quick; the queue for it and the long spiral descent are not — reckon 30–45 minutes on top, and note the basilica’s own “approximately 1 h 30 min” for the combined visit assumes an efficient pass through the nave. Children under 6 cannot go up. Whether it is worth the time is its own question: is the tower worth it.
Is one visit enough?
Yes. The interior rewards a slow ninety minutes; nothing requires a second slot except a closed tower — which is why we say book early in your trip, not on the last day.
