Is the Sagrada Família Tower Worth It?
The tower is a €10 tier (€36 vs €26): lift up, walk down, under-6s not allowed, bags in lockers, no refund if it closes. Nativity or Passion tower, how long it takes, and which tours actually include it.
The tower is the Sagrada Família’s most-asked follow-up question and the one most listings answer badly. Here is what the tower ticket is, the rules the basilica publishes, which of the two towers to choose, and — because most guided tours quietly exclude it — which tours actually get you up.
If you want a guided tour that includes the tower as an option, the small-group tour with optional Passion tower is the one that names it — 4.7 from 1,081, from about $68.
What the tower ticket is
- €36 basic + tower (€26 without), €40 with the basilica’s guided tour + tower. It is a €10 tier, not a separate ticket.
- Lift up, walk down — a long spiral staircase.
- Children under 6 may not go up; 6–16 must be accompanied by an adult.
- Not accessible for reduced mobility.
- Bags in the lockers before you go up.
- No refund if the towers are closed — they close in high wind and rain, and the basilica says so.
- Approximate total visit with tower: about 1 h 30 min.
Nativity or Passion?
You choose one. The basilica’s own description: the Nativity façade tower looks over the eastern side of Barcelona — the sea side, and it is the older, sculpted façade Gaudí finished in his lifetime; the Passion façade tower looks over the city centre. Most operator tours that offer a tower offer the Passion side. Either way the view is the Eixample grid from a stone spire; the descent — narrow, spiralling, unsuited to vertigo — is the part people remember.
Is it worth it?
Honestly: the nave is what you came for; the tower is a €10 add-on that is good, not essential. Take it if you have the time (add 30–45 minutes), no small children, no vertigo, and a fixed slot early enough that a weather closure would not wreck the day. Skip it without guilt if any of those fail. The interior is one of the few buildings on earth that outruns its photographs; the tower view is a nice view.
